Folklore has it that garnets have the power to protect you from snake bites and from having nightmares. They are said to give people guidance for seeing in the dark.  Garnets attract true love and ensure faithfulness.
The color of royalty, the amethyst comes in many shades from a pale lilac to a deep purple.  It is thought to make the wearer calm and full of peace, and to keep them from becoming intoxicated.  The amethyst is said to ensure lovely skin and thick hair to those who wear it.
In the same family as the emerald, the aquamarine has been told to bestow love, health, hope, upon those who wear it.  Sleeping with an aquamarine under your pillow would ensure a good night's sleep. In the Middle Ages, people believed that it could cure them from poisioning.   Alternate birthstone for March is the bloodstone.

Diamonds are the traditional gem of love because of the diamond's strength and endurance.  Some ancient cultures thought that diamonds were the result of lightning striking the earth.  Diamonds symbolize true love and courage.

If you suffer from bad health, then wear an emerald.  Legend says that they will cure many different illnesses and strengthen the immune system.  It was also thought that an emerald would allow you to be able to see into the future. Emeralds stimulate thoughts and creativity.
Wearing pearls keeps your relationships strong, it is said.  The pearl is the gem of chastity and modesty.  It is the symbol of brides in many cultures and in Greek mythology, it is said to protect brides from sadness in their lives.  Alternate birthstones for June are alexandrite and moonstone.
The ruby, folklore has it, brings peace and harmony to a person's life, as well as health, wealth, intelligence, and love.  It is the second hardest gemstone, right behind the diamond.  The ruby is known for its powers of emotional healing.  Its' powers are believed to be strongest during a full moon.
Another gem for promoting health, the peridot is said to enhance the effectiveness of medicinal drugs and protect the wearer from evil influences.  It is the stone of adventurers.  If worn on the chest, it is said to heal emotional tension.
The sapphire is believed to to give it's owner foresight into the future.  It nourishes and clears the mind and allows the wearer to feel peaceful and relaxed.  Wear a sapphire when taking a test or when doing any sort of mental task that requires concentration.
Looking for friends?  Pick up an opal, which is believed to increase friendships.  It is also the stone of hope, innocence, and purity. It is said to be good for attracting love and good vibes. The alternate birthstone for October is the pink tourmaline.
The yellow topaz is the gem of life and was believed to keep the wearer's mind and body strong. It was once believed that the wearer would become invisible in times of danger.  The topaz was also thought to protect people from insanity.
Blue topaz is the stone of leadership, strength, and courage.  It augments psychic intuition and promotes spiritual growth.  The blue topaz also hold many qualities of the yellow topaz.  The alternate birthstone for December is turquoise.
Birthstones are certain gemstones that are associated with the individual months. They are considered lucky for the wearer.  Legend says that while anyone can expect certain magical qualities from each stone, those who wear the birthstone have an extra boost of this "magic".
